WORLD PEACE OR WAR?

ARE WE IN THE GREAT TRIBULATION NOW JACOB'S TROUBLE

by Charles Kimbrough

The whole world seems to be in turmoil. Everywhere everything is changing. Since the break-up of the Soviet Union, Russia and the eleven other republics are in economic chaos. Gorbachev and Yeltsin can't get along. Could it be we have not seen the last of the Nobel Peace Prize winner Gorbachev as a world leader?

Yugoslavia is in civil war. Every effort of mediation has failed. Could we see NATO troops, including U.S.A. troops intervening there? Now Czechoslovakia is in trouble and could become disunited. The so-called United States of Europe is in disarray because of the action by the voters of Denmark in not ratifying the union treaty. We stand on the threshold of worldwide change. Will it be for good or for bad?

At this time we need a savior to return and bring this world under his guidance and control. Many people are looking for the return of Jesus Christ. Some are predicting His return in 1994 at Passover time. Some say we are already in the Tribulation, WHICH IS NOT THE CASE. A lot of "Christians" are being set up for a FALSE MESSIAH.

Spain is very unhappy with the cost of unification. France is probably going to vote against unity. Will there be a United States of Europe, or will they be disunited and have a consensus of relations with one another?

Japan is also in economic chaos because of inflation and overvalued real estate. Their banks are on the verge of collapse. The Japanese Dow is below 18,000 and it could fall to under 12,000. When this happens will the Banks of Japan have to draw their money out of the United States to prop up their sinking real estate values?

Some brokers here in Florida U.S.A. who had their clients monies in money market and stock portfolios, last week withdrew and went strictly to cash because of the threat of the Japanese banks being in trouble. The situation has eased a bit for now. However, keep your eyes on Japan, it's not over yet.

Since the last OPEC meeting, the price of oil has risen back up to over $22.00 per barrel. Will we have another oil shortage?

Israel and the Palestinians are still fighting. The killing is still going on there. Will the new Prime Minister Yitzak Rabin be able to solve the problem with a land for peace deal?

The United States of America is also in turmoil. The reduction in government spending on war making equipment, planes, tanks, guns, ships; the reduction of troops stationed in Europe; and the closing of defense factories have all increased unemployment. What jobs are available are lower paying jobs.

Most Americans are dissatisfied with the President and both political parties. Seventy members of congress have either been defeated for reelection or have chosen not to run. The American people want a change and it appears at this time that there could be a change. For a time it looked like if the election were held then, Ross Perot would have become the next President. Americans of both political parties seem to be obsessed with Mr. Perot. He is being called a patriot and a lot of other adulating names. Can he or any man solve America's and the world's problems? America, as well as the rest of the world, is looking to anyone who can solve their perceived problems. We are looking for a messiah (although most do not call him that).

How strange; the man of sin will be an economic as well as a political genius. For a short period of time he will bring world peace and prosperity. The people of this world will worship him because of all the things he can and will do.

Who could this man be? Years ago there were church organizations who said openly that Frantz Joseph Strauss was the man of sin, he being a political as well as an economic genius,--but he is dead. Who could it be? Gorbachev and the Soviet Union? Yeltsin? They cannot even get bread and milk to the market without long lines. Then who could it be? An American? George Bush? Bill Clinton? Ross Perot? Maybe the elder statesman Richard Nixon, who suffered a wound unto death politically and has recovered. A man who was truly the 36th president of the United States of America, not the 37th.

Over three years ago, I stated that we were headed for a time of peace (short time). A time when the Jews can rebuild the sanctuary of the temple, a time when a 7 year agreement for peace will be broken and World War III comes on this world. A time when the Jews will go into captivity and the United States will suffer the greatest destruction of any country in the history of this planet. A time when people in America will be scattered throughout all the world as captives and slaves along with the Jews that are in Jerusalem.

Stay tuned, keep your eyes and ears open, and pray that we are counted worthy to escape all these things that are coming on this world.

THE FEAST OF TABERNACLES

OCTOBER 13 THRU 20, 1992

by Mark Carr

Arrangements have been made to hold the Feast of Tabernacles in beautiful Fort Walton Beach, FL at the BLUE HORIZON, located at 1120 Santa Rosa Blvd. The Zip is 32548. This is a beautiful setting in which to keep God's Feast of Tabernacles and Last Great Day.

Make your reservations today by calling the toll free number, 1-800-336-3630 or (904) 244-5186. The manager, Frank Dubeck, has offered the church a special rate of $36.00 a night for the kitchenette units. Be sure to tell them you are with United Biblical Church of God for this rate.

The Blue Horizon is located directly on the Gulf of Mexico and has a sugar white beach. The hotel features an indoor pool, hot tub, sauna, pool bar and video game room. Rooms available include Gulf Suites (kitchenettes) overlooking the Gulf of Mexico; Executive rooms featuring view, wet bar and other amenities, and pool dome rooms overlooking the indoor pool area. Enjoy the Beach Bar and deck with nearby wave runners, sailboats and umbrella chairs available for rent. Within walking distance from the Blue Horizon you can visit the Fort Walton Pier, a 24 hour convenience store, beach stores, restaurants, shopping, the famous Water World and Gulfarium.

The Feast of Tabernacles is a time to seek the Lord! God's people in Bible times probably spent more than a month every year traveling and attending the Feast. The purpose for these Holy Days are to separate us from our business cares and burdens, and to spend a few days exclusively worshipping God.

Those who gather at the Feast experience a spiritual closeness, a growth of knowledge, and a strengthened relationship with their Heavenly Father. Attending the Feast requires both spiritual and financial planning. If you've been remiss with the financial planning, it is not too late! There is still time if you put some money in savings each week, but start today!

Remember, this is a Holy Convocation, a summons from God for you to appear before Him in celebration and worship. Please join us in this festive celebration.

Ideas for planned events are welcome. A speaking schedule will be announced later. If anyone has announcements or sermons they wish to give, please contact Charles Kimbrough (904) 382-0877, Mark Carr (615) 922-5420 or Thad Miller (704) 728-4051.

Please bring any musical instruments you play for song services and the talent show. If your children are planning to participate in the children's services (Sabbath School), please contact Mary Carr at P.O. Box 30616, Knoxville, TN 37930 A.S.A.P. so supplies can be ordered.

I think everyone will enjoy the new location this year. There are lots of attractions that are reasonably priced. When we were making the reservations we saw attractions for all ages from deep sea fishing ($25.00 a half day) to an Indian museum. There are so many things to do we don't have the space to list them.

I personally feel that each one of us should make a sincere attempt to return to our basic spiritual beliefs, putting aside petty differences using the Feast as an opportunity to strengthen our relationship with God.

A brief list of other accommodations are as follows: The Conquistador Inn 1-800-824-7112, and the Nautilus at 1-800-328-8039 which features beautiful 1 to 3 bedroom penthouses from $300.00 to $450.00 a week. Also call or write the Chamber of Commerce at (904) 244-8191 P.O. Box 640 Fort Walton Beach, FL 32549. Ask for their "Greater Fort Walton Beach Directory of Accommodations, Attractions and Restaurants". It is a complete listing of the area attractions and motels. I hope to see all of you at God's Festival!

TEEN PROGRAM

This week I talked to Weldon Boring and he is planning another teen program for the feast. It will feature Bible studies and discussions on problems that teenagers face and attempt to show Biblical solutions. I know this was a success last year and I'm sure all of our youth will look forward to it again.

SENTINEL UPDATE

by Mark Carr

It has been to long since you have heard from us. I hope that everything is going well in your lives. Everyone will be receiving something from us on a regular basis from now on. Instead of trying to write a booklet each month, we will send you short, interesting and up-to-date articles similar to what you see in this issue. This will allow us to put something in the mail to you at closer intervals.

I hope you like our new format. We have completed and/or are working on several articles for the Sentinel. Some of the subjects are the Kingdom of God, Church Government, Forgiveness and Friendships. I think you will find them appealing and relevant.

There are several booklets planned and these will be published as soon as possible. They will be made available to the local churches for distribution.

I am also working on a Bible correspondence course and I hope to have the first few lessons completed and ready to send out by the end of the year. When they are ready I will make the announcement in the Sentinel.

As you can see the Sentinel is not just another "scholarly" monthly that no one can understand. We do not claim to be scholars. We are a group of devoted Christians who love God with all of our heart, all of our soul, all of our mind and all of our strength. We are not trying to build a following, and we are not holding ourselves out as someone "special". This publication is sent because we feel we are providing a service to God's people. After all, that is what a minister really is, a servant. (See our upcoming article on church government.)

I hope you enjoyed the article on world peace. The world seems to think there will now be some kind of a settlement involving Jerusalem now that there is a new Prime Minister. While it is true there will be a peace treaty that the man of sin breaks after 3-1/2 years, there is a fundamental reason why true peace will elude Israel until Jesus returns.

Two years ago Chris Patton and I were discussing this and he made the following statement: "The Moslems will never make peace with the Jews because as long as Israel is a nation it proves one of two things. Either God did not write the Koran, (it says He gave the land to the descendants of Ishmael), or God is a liar. If you are a Moslem, neither one of these answers is acceptable. So it leaves you only one option-drive the Jews into the sea." That is exactly what they have been trying to do since 1948.

All of the writing is the product of the editor unless noted. Please keep us in your prayers and write us if there is anything we can do for you. I hope to see all of you at the Feast this year, It is the best location we have had yet.
